Frequently asked questions
Questions and answers
Frequently asked questions
Is smoking allowed?
The interior of the ship is a no-smoking zone: smoking is only allowed on the deck. As a safety measure, a statutory smoking ban applies in all cabins; this means that all cabins and rooms on board are no-smoking.
Are pets allowed?
We're sorry, pets are not allowed on board our ships.
Do I need to have sailing experience?
You do not need to have sailing experience to be able to go on our sailing trips; the skilled crew will quite happily show you the ropes. More experienced sailing enthusiasts will also get plenty of opportunity to put their skills into practice.
What is the average number of hours the ship will sail each day?
The number of hours that are sailed each day depends on the weather, the area, and the destination in accordance with the day’s programme. The ship usually sets off at around 10am and sails until the end of the afternoon.
Children’s life jackets
If you require children’s life jackets please inform us at least 14 days before the start of your trip, making sure you give us the child’s weight so the skipper can find a life jacket in the correct size.
Seasickness
Don’t worry if you tend to get seasick. Our ships are relatively stable in the water, and you hardly notice the waves compared to a sports yacht, for instance. The decks of our ships also have plenty of space, which means walking around in the fresh air is no problem whatsoever. Regular meals and ensuring you are well-rested can also make you less prone to motion sickness. If necessary, you can ask your pharmacy for a simple anti-motion sickness remedy.
Frequently asked questions
I don’t know my ship yet?
The ships used for sailing trips within the Netherlands are traditional sailing ships (such as clippers and tjalks) with two, three and/or four person cabins. Each ship is fitted with toilets, showers and a cosy day room. You will be told which ship will be used for the trip you have booked no later than one week in advance.

Travel companions
Your travel companions are likely to come from various different countries and will vary in age, from young to old and every age in between (with the exception of family trips and trips for over-forties). If you would like more information about the suitability of the trip for children or people with a slight disability, please do not hesitate to contact us. The maximum number of participants on board is 30, and the trip will go ahead when there are eight participants or more (ten for family holidays).
Common fund
On board, you pay the skipper a contribution (in cash) for the common fund. This money will be used for harbour dues, fuel, tourist tax and meals.
